Getting nervous about college? I bet you are worried not just about the academic aspect of going to college but also about where to find the money for tuition fees right down to the pen you will use for writing. College expenses have definitely skyrocketed but what is more terrible is that it does not show any signs of decline.

The economic situation is not helping either therefore it is up to us, ordinary citizens to look for ways to find the money to pay for college and avoid getting into debt. Take heart because there are ways you can beat college debt.
Submit an application the earliest possible time
If you are a senior, this means you have to apply right now! Do not wait for the end of the school year to submit your application. You see, colleges are also under pressure to meet quota with their number of enrollees, thus some schools would hand out scholarships to students who send in early applications.
Seek special consideration
If ever you have run out of grants, never just take it sitting down. Look for situations where you feel there is a need for special considerations. However, bear in mind that the situation to be considered should be real and not fabricated. A few of the circumstances that warrant special consideration and will give you the needed grant are like being recently laid off from work, having a disability, and not achieving the projected income because of, say a bonus that your company won’t be able to give this year.
Take vocational courses
This will not only be a positive add-on to your resume but it will also help reduce expenses once you pursue a college degree. You see, planning ahead is the secret. Make sure that the courses you take will be credited by the university you will apply to. Moreover, there are colleges that will cut down grants for transferees therefore you have to do proper research about an institution’s policies about crediting vocational courses along with financial aid programs for transferring students.
Check the university’s policy about Advanced Placement Program
A placement exam will only ensure that you will be moved to a class where you have the same level of learning. Scholarships given by Colleges and Universities will mainly look into your standing when you graduated from senior high rather than your AP result. However, it is still worth checking the college’s policy about the credits you will receive if you take an AP exam and work something out so that the policy will act favorably on your side.
Do not limit yourself
You may have an ideal college or university in mind but if you simply can’t afford it and there are no scholarships available for you in that specific school then just accept it and move on. Remember, learning is not limited to what school you are enrolled in but in how you strive to learn as a student.
